Police Officer Michael McGough, 39, was assigned to the 18th Precinct.
On December 1, 1917, Officer McGough spotted Markino saw coal from a railroad yard on Wallace Street, between 80th and 81st Streets. Officer McGough was fatally wounded by Charles Marino as he attempted to place him under arrest. Officer McGough succumbed to his injuries at St. Bernard's Hospital on December 8.
Charles Markino was found guilty of murder.
Officer McGough was laid to rest in Mount Olivet Cemetery. He was survived by his wife, Elizabeth, and his children, Mary and John.
