|Incident Details:||Police Officer Michael Oakley, 36, was a 10-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the 020 District.
On December 12, 1931, Officer Michael Oakley was walking to his home on the 1900 block of Cortland Street when he became the victim of an attempted armed robbery. The gunman was ordering the officer to raise his hand in the air when Officer Oakley attempted to remove his weapon. Tragically, the offender was able to shoot first, having already had his gun drawn. Officer Oakley returned fire six times. The offender was uninjured and remains unidentified.
Officer Oakley was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital where he died on December 13, 1931.
