Incident Details: Police Officer Michael O’Rourke, 42, was assigned to the 5th Precinct.

On October 24, 1903, Officer O’Rourke was protecting Nellie Murray.  Murray feared that Fred Sierre was going to murder her.  As Officer O’Rourke walked Murray to her home, Sierre engaged them in conversation and opened fire on the officer.  Officer O’Rourke was transported to a local hospital where he died on October 26.

Prior to Officer O’Rourke’s death he identified Sierre as the shooter.  Tragically, Sierre was acquitted of all the charges.

Officer O’Rourke was laid to rest in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
