|Incident Details:||Police Officer Patrick Doherty, 30, was assigned to the Cottage Grove Station.
On August 10, 1922, Officer Doherty saw two suspicious men at 28th and State Streets. As the officer padded down one of the men – Louis Roberts and David Thompson – one of them drew a weapon and shot the officer three times. Officer Doherty was struck in the chest and died at the scene.
Louis Roberts and David Thompson were both acquitted.
Officer Doherty was laid to rest in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
