|Incident Details:||Police Officer Patrick Duffy, 35, was assigned to the 19th Precinct.
On May 1, 1902, Officer Duffy was walking to his precinct when he saw a suspicious man at Emerald Avenue and 46th Street. The officer identified himself as a police officer and began to question Hugh Reilly, a wanted offender. Officer Duffy was unaware that a second man, Vincent Brisco, was hiding nearby. As the officer attempted to arrest Reilly, Brisco opened fire and shot the officer in the head.
Hugh Reilly was sentenced to 14 years in prison. Vincent Brisco was arrested in 1910 and sentenced to 14 years in prison.
Officer Duffy was laid to rest in Mount Olivet Cemetery. He was survived by his wife, Anne, and five children.
