|Incident Details:||Police Officer Patrick Mulvihill, 24, was an 18-month veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the 3rd Precinct.
On December 3, 1882, Officer Mulvihill was shot in the head while trying to arrest Bill Allen. In an attempt to save the officer’s life, highly complex brain surgery was performed on him. Allen, shot and wounding an arresting officer. Officers returned fire and fatally wounded him. Tragically, Officer Mulvihill succumbed to his injuries at his home on July 22, 1884.
Officer Mulvihill’s funeral mass was held at St. Stephen’s Church and he was laid to rest in Toronto, Iowa.
