Police Officer Peter Bulfin, 42, was assigned to the Englewood District.
On July 13, 1917, Officer Bulfin was shot during an armed robbery at the Chicago City Bank & Trust Company located in the 6200 block of South Halsted Street. He had been assigned to protect a bank clerk carrying approximately $10,000. The five armed robbers fled with $20 after fatally wounding Officer Bulfin.
No one was ever prosecuted in connection to the murder and armed robbery.
Officer Bulfin’s funeral mass was held at St. Brendan’s Church and he was laid to rest in Mount Olivet Cemetery. He was survived by his wife, Mary, and his seven children: Margaret, Josephine, James, Arthur, Peter, Edwin, and Philip.
