Police Officer Peter Ostiller, 30, was a 3-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the Maxwell Street Station.
On June 12, 1918, Officer Ostiller was on foot patrol when he was hit by a vehicle on 12th and Halsted Streets. The driver, Henry Stephan, swerved to avoid another vehicle and struck the officer. Officer Ostiller was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Officer Ostiller was laid to rest in Waldheim Cemetery. He was survived by his mother, Clara and brother, S.J.
