|Incident Details:||Police Officer Robert Granger assigned to the Wabash Avenue Station.
On April 9, 1932, Officer Granger and his partner, Alonzo Spaulding, responded to a man holding a roomful of people at gunpoint in the 5700 block of South Prairie Avenue. The offender, William Mills, was angry; he had lost a dice game. When the officers entered the apartment building, they saw the apartment’s door was open. Mills opened fire on the officers, fatally wounding Officer Granger and injuring Officer Spaulding. A responding officer shot and killed Mills. Officer Granger succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Officer Granger was laid to rest in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
