|Incident Details:||Police Officer Robert McAneney, 47, was assigned to the 012 Precinct.
On November 16, 1907, Officer McAneney was walking home after he had finished his tour of duty. The officer was near 63rdStreet and Wentworth Avenue when he interrupted a burglary-in-progress. Officer McAneney attempted to question the suspect when he was fatally wounded.
James O’Neill confessed to the murder in 1909 while in prison for unrelated charges. O’Neill, a former pupil at Holy Cross Seminary said that he had not slept since the murder occurred.
Officer McAneney was laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery.
