Police Officer Thomas Healy, 24, was assigned to the Traffic Division.
On August, 3, 1927, Officer Healy was off duty when a man, Porter Simpson approached him about trouble occurring in a third floor apartment on 71 East 42nd Street. The officer followed Simpson to a third-floor porch when Simpson opened fire on him. Officer Healy was able to return gunfire and fatally wound Simpson. Officer Healy was transported to a Chicago Hospital where he died on August 7, 1927.
