|Incident Details:||Police Officer Thomas Schweig, 34, was a 4-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the 32nd Precinct.
On July 15, 1911, Detective Schweig was on his way home at approximately 2:00 a.m., after finishing his tour of duty. The detective was less than 100 feet away from his home near Ohio Street and Ashland Avenue when he was fatally wounded by a gunman. Detective Schweig’s wife was preparing a meal for him when she heard the gunshots. Officer Schweig succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The killer remains unidentified.
Officer Schweig's funeral mass was held at St. Boniface Church and he was laid to rest in Mount Olive Cemetery. He was survived by his wife, Mary, and children, Robert and Thomas Jr.
