|Incident Details:||Police Officer Thomas Torpy, 38, was a 12-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the Wabash Avenue Station.
On September 22, 1934, Officer Torpy went to an apartment in the 4700 block of St. Lawrence Avenue to arrest Clifton Myrick. Myrick, 27, was wanted for several robberies. As Officer Torpy attempted to put Myrick under arrest, Myrick opened fire and fatally wounded the officer.
Clifton Myrick was shot and killed at the scene.
Officer Torpy’s funeral mass was held at St. Bernard’s Church and he was laid to rest in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, and two children.
