|Incident Details:||Police Officer William Gagler, 33, was assigned to the Stanton Avenue Station.
On June 18, 1932, Officer Gagler attempted to serve an arrest warrant on Sandy Spears at his home in the 3100 South block of State Street. Spears shot and wounded the officer as he attempted to evade arrest. The wounded officer returned gunfire and shot Spears four times. Spears fled the scene. Officer Gagler was rushed to Mercy Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on June 19.
Sandy Spears was placed under arrest when he sought medical treatment. He died at the Bridewell Hospital.
Officer Gagler was survived by his wife and four children.
