||Police Officer William Marsek, 28, was a 5-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the Special Operations Group — Area 6. On February 27, 1974, Officer Marsek and his partner, Officer Bruce Garrison, 29, pursued a suspicious man into a bar on the 1800 block of West Foster Avenue. When the officers entered the establishment a struggle ensued and the offender, Jacob Cohen, opened fire. Officer Marsek and Officer Garrison were both fatally wounded. Jacob Cohen was killed in an exchange of gunfire with Milwaukee police. Officer Marsek’s funeral mass was held at Our Lady of Victory Church and he was laid to rest in Maryhill Cemetery. He was survived by his parents, John and Ellyn; and brother, Charles.
