|Incident Details:||Police Officer William McCann, 33, was assigned to the Morgan Park Station.
On September 16, 1930, Officer McCann and his partner responded to a burglary-in-progress call on the 1100 block of West 111th Street. Officer McCann was walking in the home’s gangway when he was shot five times through a window. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Roseland Community Hospital.
Leon Davis, 29, was arrested and charged with murder.
Officer McCann’s funeral mass was held at St. Leo’s Church and he was laid to rest in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve; and children, William Jr., and John.
