||Sergeant Anthony Janowski, was a 29-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to Traffic — Area 006. On September 14, 1978, Sergeant Janowski had just completed a traffic accident report and was en route to Illinois Masonic Hospital to investigate a traffic fatality when his squad car was broadsided by a vehicle. The impact of the crash caused the squad car to tail spin and crash into a building. An off-duty paramedic, living nearby, rushed to the scene and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the sergeant. Sergeant Janowski was pronounced dead at Illinois Masonic Hospital. Sergeant Janowski’s funeral was held at St. Francis Borgia Church and he was laid to rest in St. Adalbert Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Angeline; daughter, Gloria Ann; and his siblings, Helen, Bernice, Clara, and Leroy.
