|Incident Details:||Sergeant Arthur Vollmar, 34, was assigned to the Town Hall Station.
On February 22, 1929, Officer Vollmar was riding his motorcycle with his partner, Carl Pablowski, seated in the sidecar. As the officers patrolled near School and Clark Streets, a pedestrian alerted them to a man who had just robbed him. The thief saw the policemen and opened fire on them as he fled. The officers, who were not hurt, returned fire but missed. The offender then stopped, aimed, and fired, striking Sergeant Vollmar in the head. Sergeant Vollmar was transported to John B. Murphy Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Sergeant Vollmar was survived by his wife and two children.
