|Incident Details:||Police Officer Edward Marpool, 55, was assigned to the 25th Precinct.
On October 26, 1920, Sergeant Marpool received a complaint of two armed men – John Kristovek and James Morrison – walking near Custer Street and Western Avenue. Upon seeing the officer, Kristovek opened fire and fatally wounded him. Three hours later Kristovek engaged police officers in a gun battle and was killed. Sergeant Marpool died en route to Alexian Brothers Hospital.
Sergeant Marpool was laid to rest in Mount Carmel Cemetery. He was survived by his wife and children.
