Sergeant Kazimer Wistert, 50, was a 20-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the 032 District.
On July 9, 1926, Sergeant Wistert chased an offender into a building on the 2200 block of West Wilson Avenue. The sergeant pursued the man up a stairwell when he was shot from above. The bullet pierced Sergeant Wistert’s lung. He was taken to Ravenswood Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on June 7, 1927.
The offender was not apprehended.
Sergeant Wistert was laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery. He was survived by his wife and four children.
