|Incident Details:||Sergeant Sidney T. Sullivan, 49, was a 23-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the Des Plaines Street Station.
On the night of January 31, 1937, Sergeant Sullivan was en route to interview an informant regarding a string of taxicab robberies. Sergeant Sullivan’s automobile skidded on a patch of ice and crashed into a ditch. He walked approximately two miles searching for help when he was accidentally struck by a passing vehicle.
Sergeant Sullivan was laid to rest in All Saints Catholic Cemetery. He was survived by his wife, Virginia, and two children, Thomas and Virginia. His brother, Lieutenant John L. Sullivan, was Chief of Detectives with the Chicago Police Department. The Sullivan family served the Chicago Police Department for almost a century.
