|Incident Details:||Sergeant Walter Riley, 28, was assigned to the Town Hall Station.
On October 26, 1926, Sergeant Riley was riding in one of seven squads responding to a riot call at the Grayland Theater, located in the 3900 block of North Avenue. The sergeant's squad car collided with a vehicle at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Addison Street. Sergeant Riley was fatally injured and his two companions - a sergeant and police officer - were severely injured. Sergeant Riley died en route to American Hospital.
Sergeant Riley's funeral mass was held at St. Sebastian's Church and he was laid to rest in Mount Carmel Cemetery. He was survived by his wife, Bertha; father, James; and his siblings, Alice, William, and Florence.
