Incident Details: Police Officer Bror Johnson, 33, was a 6-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the Traffic Division.

On January 21, 1916, Officer Johnson was directing traffic when an employee of the Thomas Cook & Son’s Tourist Agency informed him that a robbery-in-progress was taking place inside the business located at 15 East Jackson Boulevard.  The officer and the employee ran to the agency where they encountered the suspect at the front door.  The suspect immediately opened fire on the officer, shooting him twice in the heart. The first bullet traveled through the officer's arm and lodged itself in his heart.  As the suspect ran away, he shot the wounded officer in the back, piercing his heart a second time.  Officer Johnson died at the scene.

Officer Johnson’s funeral mass was held at his home and he was laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.  He was survived by his wife, Mae; daughter, Mary Rose; mother, Elizabeth Johnson; and his siblings.
