||Police Officer David C. Evans, 39, was an 11-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the 6th District. On August 25, 1997, Officer Evans and his partner, Estella Johnson, were responding to a call for paramedics requiring assistance. While en route to the scene, Officer Evans swerved to avoid hitting pedestrians and crashed through a concrete barrier on the 79th Street overpass. The squad car then plunged onto the Dan Ryan Expressway below. Officer Johnson was hospitalized and later recovered from her injuries. Officer Evans succumbed to his injuries. Officer Evans was laid to rest in Oak Woods Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Micheline; son, Brandon; and daughters, Burgundy and Ashlee.
