|Incident Details:||Police Officer Edward McGuire, 51, was a 22-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the Wabash Avenue Station.
On February 24, 1928, Officer McGuire along with Officer Joe Maurovich and Officer Maurice Quinn were dispatched to a call about an armed man terrorizing residents in the 4500 block of South Vincennes Avenue. When the officers arrived, Officer McGuire approached the offender, Paul Dovine, and attempted to place him under arrest. Dobine opened fire on Officer McGuire and fatally wounded him. Officer Quinn returned fire and fatally wounded Dobine. Officer McGuire was rushed to Chicago Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Officer McGuire was laid to rest in Mount Olivet Cemetery. He was survived by his wife, and three children.
