|Incident Details:||Police Officer Harry Gaster, 28, was a 6-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the Des Plaines Street Station.
On August 19, 1924, Officer Gaster was posted outside of the Dreamland Dance Hall located at Paulina and Van Buren Streets. The officer went to investigate three offenders breaking into a car when he was shot. The wounded officer returned fire, shooting one of the offenders. Officer Gaster succumbed to his injuries.
August Rice and Richard Raymond were charged.
Officer Gaster was laid to rest in St. Adalbert Cemetery. He was survived by his wife and daughter.
