|Incident Details:||Police Officer Harry Redlich, 38, was assigned to the Warren Avenue Station.
On July 8, 1933, Officer Redlich was on traffic duty when a woman reported to him that the advertising agency she worked in was being robbed. Officer Redlich entered the building on Madison Street and Kedzie Avenue and questioned a suspect, John Bongiorno. As Officer Redlich searched Biongiorno, the suspect’s partner returned and shot Officer Redlich in the back. Both men fled the scene and were later apprehended. Officer Redlich succumbed to his five bullet wounds.
Ross King was found guilty of murder and sentenced to death in the electric chair. John Bongiorno was sentenced to serve 199 years in prison.
