|Incident Details:||Police Officer Joseph Fitzpatrick, 42, was assigned to the Traffic Division.
On October 25, 1930, Officer Fitzpatrick was approached by five armed men who attempted to rob him as he walked to his car. The offenders yelled at the officer to put his hands up. The officer drew his weapon and turned to face the offenders when he was shot. Officer Fitzpatrick was rushed to Saint Bernard’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The offenders were never apprehended.
Officer Fitzpatrick’s funeral mass was held at Visitation Church and he was laid to rest in Mount Olivet Cemetery. He was survived by his wife and daughter, Marie.
