Police Officer Lawrence Sullivan, 26, was a 3-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the Kensington District.
On April 15, 1925, Officer Sullivan and his partner, Patrick Devine, were patrolling their beat when they stopped to question two suspicious men near 116th Street and Indiana Avenue. Officer Devine was arresting one of the men when his friend, Earl Lucio, opened fire on Officer Sullivan. Officer Devine returned fire, instantly killing Lucio. Officer Sullivan was transported to Pullman Hospital where he died on April 16, 1925.
Officer Sullivan was laid to rest in Mount Olivet Cemetery. He was survived by his parents.
