Police Officer Martin Wolski, 36, was a 13-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the Park District Police.
On March 26, 1938, off-duty Officer Wolski was shot when he approached a group of men at McKinkey Park near 37th Street and Damen Avenue. Officer Wolski’s brother-in-law heard gunfire and found the officer had been shot. Officer Wolski was rushed to Evangelical Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The offenders were never apprehended. However, four men were arrested in connection to park robberies.
Officer Wolski was laid to rest in Resurrection Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Rose, and children, Rosemary and Robert.
