|Incident Details:||Police Officer Michael Madigan, 33, was assigned to the Deering Street Station.
On June 5, 1926, Officer Madigan and his partner, Officer Michael Connaughton, were searching a soft drink parlor they suspected was selling alcohol in the 2700 block of South Union Avenue. As the officers searched the establishment, Frank Beninato, drew a gun and fired at Officer Madigan. Officer Connaughton returned fire and shot Beninato. Officer Madigan succumbed to his injuries at People’s Hospital on June 18.
Frank Beninato was acquitted of the charges.
Officer Madigan was laid to rest in Mount Carmel Cemetery. He was survived by his wife, Mary. Mary was the sister of fallen officer Frank McGlynn.
