|Incident Details:||Detective Raymond Martin, 33, was assigned to the 31st District.
On May 15, 1929, Detective Martin was acting as a decoy in order to drop off a $15,000 kidnapping ransom. The detective met the gang near Laramie Avenue and Van Buren Street. During the drop off, Officer Martin’s cover was blown and he was fatally shot. Detective Martin was transported to Francis Willard Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Detective Martin was laid to rest in Irving Park Cemetery. He was survived by his wife and two young sons.
