|Incident Details:||Police Officer Stuart Dean, 60, was a 34-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the 29th Precinct.
On July 18, 1916, Officer Dean was the fifth person slain by crazed religious fanatics – Henry McIntyre and his wife. The McIntyre’s went on a shooting spree and then barricaded themselves in their home in the 300 block of North Claremont Avenue. Officer Dean was shot when he battered down their door. During the siege, the offenders ignited dynamite and dozens of shots rang out between them and police. Officer Dean succumbed to his injuries at Park Avenue Hospital.
Officer Dean’s funeral mass was held at Warren Avenue Congregational Church and he was laid to rest in Arlington Cemetery. He was survived by his wife, Mary.
