Incident Details: Police Officer Theodore Anderson, 27, was a 3-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, assigned to the Stanton Avenue Station.

On July 22, 1926, Officer Anderson and his partner, Thaddeus Coakley, - both members of the vice squad - were in plain clothes when they spotted a suspicious man.  Officer Anderson stopped the man and was shot while attempting to search him.  Officer Coakley opened fire and wounded the offender.  The offender fled, leaving a trail of blood behind him.  Officer Coakley helped his injured partner into a taxicab and used a call box to call for back-up assistance.  An arriving sergeant followed the offender's blood trail to a porch on the 3100 block of South Wabash Avenue.  Sergeant Booth ordered the offender to come out from underneath the porch.  Instead, the offender opened fire narrowly missing the sergeant.  Sgt. Booth returned fire and fatally injured the offender.  Officer Anderson succumbed to his injuries en route to Lakeside Hospital.

Officer Anderson was survived by his wife, Henrietta.  He was laid to rest in Mount Auburn Cemetery.
