Incident Details:

Sergeant Thomas Lynch was the chief squad leader of the Fillmore District.

On November 23, 1927, Sergeant Lynch along with other officers were in pursuit of a vehicle they believed was occupied by members of the “42 Gang.”  Sergeant Lynch was shot when they drove over a pot hole and one of the service weapons, hanging on the squad’s running board, accidentally discharged.  Sergeant Lynch succumbed to his injuries at Robert Burns Hospital.

Sergeant Lynch’s funeral mass was held at St. Sylvester’s church and he was laid to rest in Mount Carmel Cemetery.  He was survived by his wife and daughter.
