Incident Details: Sergeant Richard Roushorn, 40, was a 19-year veteran of the Chicag Police Department, assigned to the Crime Detection Labarotory Division. On September 11, 1954, Sergeant Roushorn was driving his vehicle when a City of Chicago garbage truck struck him 63rd Street and South Park Avenue. When the two men curbed their vehicles, the garbage truck driver, Livingston McGraw denied being at fault for the accident. McGraw told Sergeant Roushorn, “You wouldn’t be so brave without that gun on you.” Sergeant Roushorn then removed his weapon and placed it on the front seat of his car. The sergeant was speaking to witnessed when McGraw stole the weapon and shot him twice. Sergeant McGraw succumbed to his injuries at Woodlawn Hospital. Livingston McGraw was found guilty and sentenced to serve 14 years in prison.
